My Journey to Memphis
This journal belonged to P. B. Durfee and chronicles two trips from Providence, Rhode Island, to Memphis, Tennessee, where he worked as a clerk during the 1860s.
B. Durfee’s journal consists of 132 pages of autograph entries in pencil chronicling two business trips to Memphis taken in 1866 and 1867. Durfee described daily occurrences and activities including the weather, correspondence, work, amusements (especially card games), social gatherings, personal hygiene, and his lodgings.
